How to decrease the length of transmission line

hi again! Smile
I read an article describing how to shorten a transmission line, which is very good if you are saving board space, but the the limiting factor is the high impedance of the shortened line and the capacitors used for resonance. Sad
Is there other ways?
Thanks again. Smile

Hi rfdipper,

To save boardspace you can use a dielectric with a higher er value. On
such materials the wave propagates slower, so the structures get smaller.

Hi,

The first comment is correct. What you can do is to stack another substrate on it so it will be like a sandwich structure. This will eventually increase the Eeff which decrease the electrica length which means decreasing the physical length.

You can widen the trace to lower the impedance and increase the capacitance this also has the effect of increasing the bandwidth, see Howard Johnson's articles - available I believe at www.ednmag.com.
