What are the white spot in the die photo?

Hi all,
I always find this kind of die photo with many
white spot like in the attached picture. are these bonding
pads or some other use? if they are bonding pads, how
do so many bonding wires connect to such a chip?
or they use probe station to test this chip?

Thanks

I would take them to be probe points, or bump attach
pads - perhaps already bumped. They appear different
than the periphery bond / probe pads.

You'd have to play with different mags and tilts to get a
better idea.
