I have some experiance with an open source EMC software avalible from http://sourceforge.net/projects/emc.

Quote:
"EMC is software that implements real-time control of equipment such as machine tools, robots, and coordinate measuring machines. It runs in real-time under Linux with the NMT rtlinux patch, and in nonrealtime under Solaris, and WindowsNT."

You might also want to check out http://www.linuxcnc.org/links.html for some links to Linux CNC resources.

It should compile fine on RH 8.0. The dircet link to the file you want is here. Once you grabbed this package read the 'README' file for further instructions. Goodluck!
