During the design of boost converter, only inductor value is important?? why not the capacitor value?
I need to design a boost converter with following specs...
o/p => 50W, 12V
i/p => 4-5V

what should be the inductor and capacitor value?

The inductor will depend on mostly the on the output current and the frequency of the converter. Think of it like a teacup (inductor) and bucket (output cap). The faster you go (switching cycles per second) the smaller the teacup (inductor value) you can use. The output cap size is also determined by how much ripple you find acceptable. I work at Maxim, so my favorite part for this sort of application is the MAX668, but there are lots of ICs out there that can do this, and the data sheets will help you pick component values.
