Hello Guys,
I'm looking for a good PCB design tool. It is going to be used for hobby projects so it needs to be low cost or preferably free.
I'm looking for something that can optimize the layout of the components on the board, basically I'd like to select the board size, then position a few components at fixed locations ( like connectors, LCDs, etc ), then define the connections between components and let the software find the most optimal positions for the rest of the components and the trace lines.
I also need the ability to print the PCB design ( not scaled ) so that I can use it for etching my own boards.
Thanks in advance,
Fernan

| You may try ExpressPCB or PCB 123 which are available for free on the net, with user friendly menu's. Good luck.

| Why don't you use ORCAD PCB Designer tool. It comes with the ORCAD circuit simulator as a complete package.

You may like to try Cadstar.
They are giving away a free (down graded) package.
It should do what you want.

If you just need PCB for hobby ExpressPCB is the best choice. You can make anything you want for free.
A former Layout designer told me once how he was impressed by this tool.
