semiconductor as inductor

Is there any poissibility of semiconductor acting as inductor (ex: P+ doped ring)? ( not conductor)

Re: semiconductor as inductor

Hi,

Up to my knowledge no.
But inductance can be modelled using active devices(thy call it as active inductor..)

Thanks,

Re: semiconductor as inductor

Most RF CMOS processes offer inductors using thick metal layer(s).
Typical inductances are 1 to 4 nH with Q around 5 to 10.

Of course .. evne a single trace of metal can act as inductor. but the value of inductance depends on frequecy of operation. (wL) which is generrally not much. (<1GHz) ... More over it also depend on parameters like widith and lenglth of trace.....

Some CAD like ADS offers you to simulate the parasitec inductance of metals trace dependeing on frequenncy ofr various parameter...

A 130nm RFCMOS process with inductors will operate in the 1 to 15 GHz range.

Guess the question and answer is too different. The question is asked about a semiconductor ( not conductor) and the answer is given in reference to a metal.Crying or Very sad

As per my knowledge say...NO. I agree with the posting of "Blackuni". Good luck

Yes, you could make a spiral in, say, the "active" layer (the doped area) instead of a metal layer. But the metal layers generally have lower resistance and thus higher Q (≈ωL/R) than the active layer. So I can't think of any good reasons to make the inductor in the semiconductor rather than the metal.

this is general concept friend.... either for metal or diffusion or poly .. the difference is only of value of inductance .. metal will have lower wile diffusion and poly will have more.....
