Enabling modbus and profibus in self designed products

I've designed a card and i want to add it the functionality of modbus and profibus to allow it to communicate with different devices over rs485. I think modbus has more sources and easier to implement but in my first look profibus is more closed. Are they have any license or is it free to implement them? Where can i find the specifications, examples, tutorials etc? Can you help me? Thanks.

Re: Enabling modbus and profibus in self designed products

For the PROFIBUS specification, see http://www.edaboard.com/viewtopic.php?t=115804.

According to my experience, PROFIBUS software implementation is very difficult compared to MODBUS. A microprocessor implementation with a sufficient fast microcontroller can work up to 187 kBaud, possibly 500kBaud. Industrial PROFIBUS DP slaves are generally using ASIC interface chips to comply with the strict timing requirements and to achieve the expected 12 MBaud speed.
