Is there an Electromagnetic Simulator like hfss (microwaves) that can operate in the visible spectrum. I need to calculate the eigenmodes of an optical 3d resonant cavity.

hmm, I think, that CST MWS can simulate optical frequency

but I am not sure, that is the best software for this aplication....

- I think with every FDTD program you can do it!
e.g. freeware (under Linux): LC Cray http://lc.cray.com/
If you like it more comfortable e.g. Semcad light (for 99USD):
http://www.semcad.com/simulation/applications/optics/index.php
But also with other FDTD programs of course...
