Hi all,
I need to calculate the eigenmodes of a 3d optical cavity (300-700 nm wavelength) and I don't know how do it.
I have tried ansoft hfss 11 but It only works with microwaves.
please help me, thanks .

You could use something like an HFSS, but you would have to frequency scale the dimensions accordingly. A 100 GHz signal will be 0.003 meter wavelength.
So, you take your optical resonator dimensions, multiply them by 1000, and analyze it at 100GHz, and you will have "similar" results.
You are making a design analog. In the old days, before computers could fit on a desk, we used to do 100 GHz waveguide design down at 1 GHz, with big slugs of plastic, saws, files, and copper foil. You would get the circuit to work down at 1 GHz, and then scale the dimensions up to 100 GHz and then cut the metal.
I suspect that there are better programs out there than HFSS, though, to do this without screwing around.

| mmmmm I think that it works but I wonder if there are other physical factors (besides geometry) to be considered (using similar solution).

| the metal at optical frequency (especially visible wavelengths) is different from a microwave property, where metal can be considered as a perfect conductor. metals at optical frequency are dominated by the Drude dispertion. so, I suggest not to simulate your optical resonance cavity simply scaling the dimensions, as mentioned above.
