31 Mar 2009 22:50 IE3D meshing on L - probe fed patch |

Hi all,
I am using IE3D to simulate a patch antenna. The patch is fed by an L-shaped probe. The automatic mesh that IE3D applies on the structure concentrates mostly on edges (due to AEC), leaving the portion over the probe with fewer cells. This is something reasonable due to lack of electrical connection between the patch and the probe. But with decreased meshing density in the area, it will be difficult to capture the current density changes and get good accuracy.
Which is the best way to manually mesh the patch, in order to capture the current density changes in the vicinity of the probe?
The probe – patch distance is over 2mm. Do I need to align the mesh for these two parts of the structure?

Normally, you don't need to have extra finer meshing for the probe location as long as you apply AEC. The s-parameters should be quite reasonable. However, if you really want to make some portion of the structure to have finer meshing, you can use ADV EDIT->MESH AND MERGE->MESH SELECTED POLYGONS.
