| The 555 timer contains an RS flip flop. Can 555 timer be used as an RS flip flop ?

Why not? Control via the inputs CONTROL_VOLTAGE / THRESHOLD and TRIGGER.

You can find it at any dateSheet service, e.g. here:

i want the schematic and not the datasheet
Added after 1 minutes:
in which pin should we give R input and in which pin should we give S input .............and do we need to short any pins.

I already told you in my first answer. I suggest you read more thoroughly!

Ok, a little bit more. Here's a symbolic representation of a 555 IC :
It's from http://www.elektronik-kompendium.de/public/schaerer/st555.htm , and it includes the explanation, but in German language. Essentially it says:
A LOW pulse at the TRIGGER input (pin 2) sets the RS-FlipFlop: OUTPUT (pin 3) gets HIGH. A HIGH pulse at the THRESHOLD input (pin 6) resets the RS-FlipFlop and OUTPUT (pin 3) goes LOW.
If the input CONTROL-VOLTAGE (pin 5) is not used (to change the trigger level), connect it with a 100nF cap to GND. If /RESET/ (pin 4) isn't used, connect it to Vcc. Leave DISCHARGE (pin 7) open.
HTH!

Not quite:

You really should read more thoroughly Is this, possibly, your problem ... and the reason for your name? ' '
Pin 2 is your /S/ (active LOW), and pin 6 is your R (active HIGH).
