Hi,
I have made a RS232 to RS485 converter , circuit is taken from
http://www.circuit-projects.com/converter-circuits/rs232-rs485-converter-with-automatic-rx-tx-
control.html
But the Modbus device using RS485 is not available now . So to test the converter I have made
two converters and RS232 of both converters are connected to PC as in fig
http://www.postimage.org/image.php?v=Pq1RHcc9
But I am not receiving any dat on other side.
Can I test the converter like this? If not any other way to test the converter?
TIA

I don’t know what software do you use to 1st send data out through COM1 and 2nd read data from COM2, but I would use only one COM port and Hyperterminal and connect Tx [pin 3 (DB9)] to converter 1 and Rx [pin2 (DB9)] to converter 2 .. GND [pin5 (DB9)] common for both ..
Now, with the Hyperterminal running, press (and held for a while) any key and you should “see” TX LED on converter 1 and RX LED on converter 2 flashing and in the same time characters should be displayed on the screen ..
Of course, all of the above is true if both converters are correctly assembled and connected to, say, 8-20Vdc ..
Rgds,

I am on Linux(Ubuntu).
I am using GtkTerm to send the data to Tx (pin3 DE 9) of converter 1 and the same application to
receive the data on Rx(pin 2 DE 9) of converter 2.
I do not have Windows installed on my Machine , but will try what you said , on my freinds
machine .
thanks
