MPLAB V8.20A is recommended for PICkit 3:

A firmware issue has been found where certain peripherals may not restart after a halt has occurred during a debug session.
This affects 16-bit devices (dsPIC33F, PIC24H, and PIC24F). Also, sporadic programming failures were occurring with some PIC24FGA/GB devices.
Programming failure when Software Breakpoints enabled
Affects only MPLAB IDE v8.20, 18F devices
Tools – REAL ICE and ICD 3
A programming problem has been found when Software Breakpoints are enabled and the device is programmed. This happens on 18F products, not 18FJ devices. The failure signature is the Debug Executive will fail to program.

I downloaded the file but I could not find the PCB and SCH file, only the firmware and some pdfs. Is it right?
Did anyone tested the PicKit 3, does it work?

That's cool, now both PK2 and PK3 support PTG.
PK2 uses its own PC application, PK3 uses MPLAB. That's interesting.
Let's see how long it will take for PK3 to have a standalone PC GUI just like the PK2.

PK3 is still in the early phase of its product life, so there are lots of bugs reported in the past 10 months.
Also most of the PK3 software design took an approach of ICD2, which makes it less reliable for long term usage.
