Hi everyone.
I have a question.
Given a limited board space, and a fix illumination target.
Which type of Lamp of LED would produces the brightest effect.
I am thinking the 3mm LED is smaller and can fit in more LED
within the same board space.
With more die on the PCB board, I guess the sum of light energy
would be greater then a 5mm LED.
The manufacturer advise on 5mm LED but I would like to
understand why is this so?
Thank you.
Best Regards,
Siong Boon

| The brightest one will most probably the one with the highest current rating. If they are the same then go for the smaller one.

| Cheap LEDs look bright because they have a focussed narrow viewing angle.

| The size of the LED will not (majorly) affect the brightness of the LED. Look at the MCD rating of the LED on a datasheet, and compare the two to see which is the brighter. The size should not really be an issue
