Post05 Oct 2008 10:58   gas sensor

I want to realize a gas (methane) sensor for a small room...
I've found that absorption peak for methane is 3.3um, so i want to use an InAs photodiode...But i have some doubts:
1)what type of laser diode i shoud use?
2)how an home (for example) gas sensor is pratically realized? photodetector and laser diode are inserted in the same package?laser diode is in front of photodetector or it is inclinated? How laser diode is pilotated: with continuos or pulsed current? If laser diode is put in front of photodetector, how photodetector distinguish radiation emitted by laser diode and radiation absorbed and reemitted by gas?
thanks in advance
