for the normal diode current flows from anode to cathode
In zener from cathode to anode because it is used in reversed biased mode

| currnet flow depend upon p type carriers n ntype carries,in forword bais both diods work same but in reverse baising zener diode mantain a constant voltage across it,where simple diode doesn't work in it
