| Zeners are good for playing all kinds of tricks, as mentioned they can be used as voltage regulators, they can be used as TVS devices (if big enuf) they can be used as voltage references for comparators. Or if your feeling frisky they can be used as voltage controlled variable capacitors even, you can play all kind of nice tricks with them.
