my_books might be a hobbyist. The topic is about having the home lab. There are institution and research laboratories, where people go and do work outside there home day and night, but that's the different story. My dad used to have a huge Home Lab at Kuwait in 80s, having every major electronic instrument at that time, great hand made workshop table, cabinets, and other things. It feels like a having a Workshop and Home together

| I prefer to do all my work at the company / varsity and have a nice place to chill at home, even if I stay at work until 10pm. Anyone like me?

I've got a home lab. I would not want to be without one.
I just love waking up late on Sundays, get up, walk to my home lab, and just start working on whatever project is sitting on the desk. Not even getting my pants on.
Sorry for that last comment. Maybe I shared too much.
Anyways, for me a home would not be a home if it did not contain a home lab. Period.
My lab is not overly stocked with eguipment, but I get by.
1x Fluke 79 multimeter
1x Home build lab supply, 30V/3A
1x Philips Fluke PM95 portable oscilloscope
1x Schneider Amplitude meter (from the early 80s)
1x Home build electronic load, 200W (400V/10A) (nearly finished, it needs a case and proper display readout facilities)
1x Soldering iron with temperature control
I'm currently looking into building a larger lab supply with more features. Target is around 60-80 volt 10 amps.
Cheers,
/Ghydda

Hi
Very good question. This was my dream and I have worked on it for many years. When I graduated, I was very fascinated by microcontrollers (those days were using EPROM).
Now I have these Lab Instruments.
1) Weller fine tip soldering station WD80
2) Hakko desoldering station 470
3) HP 100 Mhz Oscilloscope
4) Leader 20Mhz Oscilloscope
5) Lodestar variable power supply 5X1Vdc and 0-30X2Vdc
3) HP 34401A Multimeter
4) Fluke 45 Multimeter
5) Escort Frequency generator 2Mhz sweep
6) Philips LCR meter
7) Other multimeters Fluke 187x2 Fluke 87X1
I am in process of setting up a Lab.
I am basically working on AVR, Xilinx CPLD and VB.
Thanks

Here's my home lab. I'm still getting things organized, as I was spread out over a few parts of the house. It's not big, but it'll work for now. And, yes, I made the desk myself.

Nice LAB.
I won't be lying to say that most of india's eng college has same level of laboratories as you have in your home.
beside, i am planning to set up a home lab to work on micro-controllers.
I already have got some stuffs with a workshop i attended recently.
the Tools i have:
1) Basic solder Iron
2) AVR Atmega8
3) Some driver ICs
4)2 bread board
Well, as i said..its pretty basic.
now i need your advice on how to improve my lab. I
Please add to the list as follows:
1) Some 8051,, preferably AT series.
2) better solder iron
3) hand drill
4) collection of some basic electronic components.
(Will some one suggest which basic components are used regularly)
5)multimeter
6)adapter
7)a 12 v battery, and a 6-7 v battery
.
.
.
