Regarding leonardo spectrum

hi,
Can anybody tell me if it is possible to programme a device say for example a xilinx device using Leonardo spectrum? if it is so plz tell me how???
any good tutorial will do.....plz help as early as possible.

thanx.............

Regarding leonardo spectrum

Hi,

Leonardo Spectrum (LeoSpec) support most of FPGA devices.
You can refer to LeoSpec tutorial. You click on the help button at LeoSpec window and find for the tutorial material.

Let me know if you still face this or other prob related to LeoSpec.

Re: Regarding leonardo spectrum

hi dear,
m asking how to program a device. i mean when i get "XXX.BIT" file after synthesis than after that how to burn that file into the target......i want the process how to do burn the bit file......i think now u got my question.....plz help me if u can...........thanx..

Regarding leonardo spectrum

Hi,

sorry, my bad.

In order to generate the BIT file, you need to have another software which is provided by the FPGA device manufacturer. Such as Altera or Xilinx.

Altera -> Quartus2
Xilinx -> ISE

You need these tools to generate the BIT file.
LeoSpec cannot generate BIT but it can generate the netlist file of your design.

You can get the toturial from these software to help you to generate bit file.

Hope it helps.

Re: Regarding leonardo spectrum

But actually i got a file "XXX.BIT" using Leonardo spectrum.....After doing the synthesis.
I mean if we want to go to the Vendor tools for Programming then Why do we Call Fpga Advantage, "A Platform independent tool". My LS is embedded in FPGA ADVANTAGE.
Can u plz Clarify???????????.....
THANKX........

Re: Regarding leonardo spectrum

in Leonardo (or precision) you may make place and route potentially as FPGA Advantage is integrated with many vendor place and route tools (ISE for example).
so you can then get your bit file to be burned to the kit.

Dude,

You cannot use Leospec to program a device.
What it does is its synthesize your design and map it to target device ex. Xilinx FPGA.
Also, its can perform place n route too.

Thus, at the end of the day, you still need Xilinx ISE to program n download onto the FPGA device.

It is because it lets you design for any silicon, any vendor n any language.

Like ISE n qu(at)rtus, these tools are free. You can download from internet or they'll give it to you for free after you buy their devices.
It can do what leospec n modelsim does.

However, the major different is one is much much more expensive than the other.
Means, you pay for its capability for better optimization, faster simulation, better place n route and support most of FPGA device in the market and etc..
That's the advantage.

You can refer here:
www.mentor.com

That's all.

Re: Regarding leonardo spectrum

You can't use Leo-Spec for programming the FPGA. For this you need to have the FPGA manufacturer software.. Eg: Xilinx ISE, Altera qu(at)rtus II & Actel Designer .. etc.
