Did you try a USB to serial cable and attach a JDM circuit to the serial?

Try FTDI chip FT232 USB to serial RS-232 converter, you can also find drivers for virtual COM port for this chip on www.ftdi.com

using the converter isn't the best way to go, because it only make simply protocol and messy signal conversion, the JDM programmer make use the fully RS232 standar to supply the correct vpp voltage to the micro. . .

. . . BUT . . .

there are a good USB to Serial converter @t Radio shack but this one is expensive, I have made some test on it, and really pumps the RS232 levels up to -/+ 9v, instead (-/+5V) of the ordinaries converters.
