Post30 May 2008 9:03   Pin compatible alternative for my ancient h8/532 MCU?

Hello,

I have a circuit that is running code on an ancient Hitachi h8/532. Those MCUs are starting to get really rare and insanely expensive. The circuit will eventually get into refurbishing and it will be done all over again. However, in the mean time, I was wondering if there is a pin compatible alternative to it. I am probably after a miracle at this point but an alternative that will run my code and fit on the current pcb artwork would be really neat.

Thanks

I dont think so, this has been used extensivly by my employers and they are still having to use it despite the immense cost.

One day they will redesign the equipment to use something else as we could not find a pin compatable replacement.

Perhaps contact your Hitachi rep and ask them?

I don2t think these chips are bought from Hitachi reps.. They are likely bought from wholesale dealers that stock every chip they can lay their hands on, and these chips are getting harder to stock for them.. so when you ask for a shipment of chips that are gonna cost them a lot more than getting a batch of avrs or pics, they charge a lot more..

apparently there was a lawsuit back in '90s about motorola telling hitachi to stop selling these chips.. so i'm surprised they are still manufacturing the thing..

and is there any hitachi semiconductor department left? isn't is renesas selling hitachi technology now?
