Post10 May 2008 12:37   minimal low cost, minimal function GSM module

Hi,
I want to build a system that is able to communicate with GSM base stations (cell tower) identify who they are and caculate my distance from them, hopefully resolving my location by triangulation with multiple towers. Then at specified intervals my location is sent to a remote location via sms or equivalent.
I would need to detect low power and optionally recieve sms messsages.
The focus is to be small, low power but able to pick up towers around residential areas say 5km+ away. It could sleep in low power mode and wake up to make these calls...
The less features less cost too I hope

Any ideas on what would where I should go for this kind of module...

Thanks
Gavan

Is there a reason you can't use a GPS receiver?

Dave
