It depends in which way are you talking about? Although digital photography has taken over analog photography in public, due to easy and fast capabilities it provides you with, Still analog photography is being used by professional photographers, like magazine photographers. It still has a better quality and sharpness.
Professional use advanced digital cameras for taking several pictures of the object and analyze them to get the best angle, lighting and other things, and they take the final picture with analog ones.

Digital still camera is handy on post-processing, but the real bottle neck is the lens. Though digital still camera now has dozens of miga pixels but the distortion caused by the lens is so big that the pixels number doesn't make sense.

I think that, today, the digital photos are better than the analog photos, because of, the performance of the digital cameras that we can obtain in a supermarket or other store is really good. Some years ago, the performance of this camera isn't the sufficient to satisfy our necessities, but today isn't a problem.

Which is better and which is not depends on everyone's need.

The real thing is that, in terms of resolution, analog (film) cameras are far beyond the state of the art in digital cameras (even for the professional ones) but you'll be only able to see it as soon as you try to make a huge size print.

In other words, for the ordinary user and naked eye, today's digital cameras are exactly the same as film ones, and they give you the well know other benefits but, for some kind of photo professionals, the film one is, by far, the only solution.

layoutnaster,
I read somewhere (can't remember where) that 11 megapixels provides roughly the same resolution as Kodak Kodacolor ASA 100 film. The result is that the resolution of an 11X14 print will be roughly the same for an 11 meagpixel digital camera and a film camera using Kodacolor ASA 100 film, assuming the everything else is equivalent (lens quality etc).
Regards,
Kral
