Hi Abdul Manan.

I'm quit interested in control system, but my field is robotic. Could you please give some information on what is the final year project level (e.g. cert, diploma, degree, masters). I had several control sys. project title, but all of them are for first degree level. Tq.

i think control system is also very much involved in robotics
im doing degree
the level of project could be very high
i have a strong project background in projects specially controllers
this time i wanna make something very special

A good project could be on design and implementation of a closed-loop motor controller with hight precision...

You could design a robotic manipulator arm with more then 6 motors and axis on it. Now have it perform some precision task. Say it could be fixed with a arc-welding machine and then your control algos will control the position of the motors based on some inputs...

Hi Abdul Manan.

Below are some title that i had, and idea that come accros:(just a suggestion)
1. Autonomous mobile robot for underground parking lot surveillance.
2. Hybrid autonomous mobile robot by utilizing both petrol and battery.
3. Automated habitats control, from feeding, water treatment, water filtering, water level and continuous monitoring for agriculture industries.

From a single title, actually there are several topic or field must be cover to finish the hole title. I think you can guess what is the related field for each title.

ok do a machine which will pick goods on a conveyer and put them in boxes according to colors.
in addition to that it will exclude pieces which have defects.
like the thickness of the board, it has holes.......

this type of project had been completed last year
and it was not even nominated 4 gold medal
and this task was done by an individual in 6 months

i have three members in my group and 16 months to complete project

although my university is not well known among the international universities but still it demands some v.good projects 4m students

hi abdul,

here is a project idea for you. non-linear control of a voltage source inverter.

the idea here is to eliminate the need for a DC link capacitor through the use of very high bandwidth control and non-linear response to transients.

if you can figure this out you will be millionare. lots of good papers on the subject to get you started.

build an automated car which drives a cirtain path alone but has also the ability to change its track according to obstacles (not an rc car)
you can even made it to work on sunlight

Post11 May 2008 0:01   Re: suggest a final year project on control systems

i can not go into detail about MY idea .. as it is proprietary. i'll just explain the problem, not how to solve it.

the bulk of controllers in all power electronics is making use of negative feedback pulse width modulation of some sort or another. then use standard control theory to correct the error. the premise of this approach is that the controller is linearizing the system to a first order.

i.e. one variable.

i give a 3-phase voltage source inverter as an example because i am most familiar with it. here the DC link capacitor purpose is many, but primary task is to ensure the DC bus is in fact DC - a constant value.

then, when you apply your control circuit, you find that you are controlling only ONE variable.. the duty-cycle.

Vout = k*Vin

where k is your pulse width modulation, duty-cycle.

but what if Vin was also a variable?

now your linear circuit response controller must work twice as fast. it does so because it is linearizing your system about an operating point.. a SINGLE operating point that is small in its view.. keeping a small view of your system allows your controller to see only a linear system. if it had a greater view it would realize it was only linear in that small region, but the bigger scope picture is much more non-linear.

or ..

match the non-linear system with a non-linear controller. for the purpose of controlling two variables, pulse width and dc bus voltage.

hey im a final year instrumentation and control engineer too and these control projects involve lot of expenditure ..you will have to get a transducer a daq all those stuff..i do have them it is fun to work with but it comes with a cost
