Hi Shadeslayer.
I'm quit a fan of robotic. I would like to give some suggestion, but before that, please let me know:
1. What kind of motor you going to use? (dc, stepper, hobby servo)
2. How many motor you would like to use? (2 unit or 4 unit)
3. What is the robot movement ability? [car like(anchorman), wheelchair like(braitenberg), tank like(skip-steer)]
Doing project step by step will teach you more, rather then skipping importance procedure.

| For simple EM relays you could use some high current drivers like ULN2003.

I've designed a simple schematic, use it for your robot application.
It will work

This file (.dsn) is a Proteus simulation file.If you install the Proteus Software and double click on this .dsn file, this file will automatically open in ISIS7 of Proteus and you can see the simulation
