where 8051 microcontroller be prefere?

With so many types available in the market today and with so many benefits it is not easy to focus in one single type, mainly the type of project that this being developed.
The question is: Which microcontroller do you use or prefer and why?

I like the PIC18 a lot, as well 8051 and HC08. I like because its hardware is really great and is very easy to program.

why we use microcontrollers

I use PIC
because it is the only one locally available in different RAM, ROM and peripheral capacities and packages.

mcs50 processor architecture

I prefer Microchip PIC, because I have more resources and tools for Microchip MCU.

PIC's are great for the large selection with internal perf. no other company is offering this. The PIC10F i think is the best of them all, microchip understands the customer, we are wating now for more PIC10F devices and even smaller if possible PIC8F devices maybe in micro-SMD package maybe Smile.
The MSP430 is also a very interesting chip but really focused on low power analog stuff.

I think LPC should also be on this list since its impressive and very good priced. I think AMR7 will kill microchip PIC24, dsPIC30, 33 core in the long run !

It's like falling in love.

At the fist glance they are one like the other. I can live with any of them. But then I started to pay more attention to the details... Had a couple of adventures... And, after having spent some time together - although I know my favourite has many minor faults and drawbacks - I am still with it faithfully...

pic indeed, at least, it has many resources, and I can find it in my country... still I`m waiting to get hands to an AVR...

Hi all
The ARM7 is my own favorite, but the PIC is very popular with the do-it-yourself crowd also. they are very cheap to obtain & work with.

Re: Which microcontroller do you use or prefer and why?

My favourite is the dsPIC30F series. Many reasons; they are easy to program with simple tools, I can use MPLAB which we always used at school, they come in DIP package so I can prototype stuff on breadboard, they are fast (30MIPS, 120MHz some can be overclocked up to 50MIPS, 200MHz if you heatsink them), they have a decent math performance, DSP libraries for stuff like FIR filters, PID regs, etc, and they run at 5V! They are available with 12-bit A/D or PWM, and my personal favourite is using two; one with 12-bit A/D reading sensors and running digital filters, as SPI slave under one with PWM, running PID-loops and controlling servos!

ATMEL 89C51 is also gud for simple projects... due to easy structure u can understand it easily... and also available in bulk in most of the countries

I am using AVR series because i have all the things that i need: IDE in C (IccAVR), IDE in asm (AvrStudio), hardware to program and debug (STK500)

i use AVR bcoz its easy to use and free net support is available. i first tried PIC 16f628a made programmer but got stuck in assembly lang. while avr is easy to use avrstudio n winnavr makes easy to use n use c lang also

I use PIC. There are a lot of tools available and the option to use high level language makes it a good choice.
It is also available almost everywhere.

Re: Which microcontroller do you use or prefer and why?

For me is the PIC.

Microchip have done a good job, if have lots of different PICs, from small and simple to complex and powerful, not expensive, you also can buy a PIC almost everywhere.

Microchip also have a good software for developing the PICs, good support, and lots of samples.

The PIC is really easy to program, you can use it in lots of different things, and if you search in the net you will find lots of things related to PICs.

Easier is difficult Very Happy

my favorite is the pic because it can be easily programmed using pic basic pro compiler and also because it can not only sink but also source the current in a very good manner

Re: Which microcontroller do you use or prefer and why?

Hi

I have worked with all most every microcontroller in the world
I have design hardware and write software for lot of project, in all most any field of technology

- from my point of view the following are the best in descending order:

1. ARM - flash best microcontroller
2. MSP430
3. 8051
4. AVR
5. PIC

All the best

The type of microcontroller we are using depends on the need. We can use ATMEL 8051 for simple projects, since it is very easy to program as well as easier to develop. We can use PIC for other projects, since we have more compilers available for pic in the market.[/quote]

I use various microcontrollers such as 8051 family and ARM based micros. In addition I´m able to implement high level solutions on top of these microcontrollers

Re: Which microcontroller do you use or prefer and why?

dear friends

i think there's something we have to check
there are two catagories in this.
when we concider the susyetm design, generally we check the processor suitable for the project.here the question is not specific.how can you compare the 8 bit/16 bit/32 bit processors?
we could have split the survey in to parts so that we will get specific answers.normally people used to wotk with the 8 bit mcu's so the rating for the same will come up.
this is my openion.what do you think?

regards

I prefer AVR(ATmega series) for the majority of applications. Easy to program, plenty of code around and much faster than PIC's. But for motor control i preffer dsPIC30F series...

Re: Which microcontroller do you use or prefer and why?

For no problems products PIC is the best, very stable .... but difficult to debug in more complex programs. The more easy for use in USB device applications, thanks for Microchip samples in both sides, controller and PC and more easy to buy and select, greats to very big family.
MSP430 is good and easy to program and debug using JTAG is very good. But for get some resources only in families more expensive, and some ghost problems like locks are present.
Now I`m starting with ARM7 from NXP and ARM9 from Cirrus (for linux usage) and both are very good micros ... ARM series, has good forums and done samples for everything from SD CARD codes and IP stacks, sometimes just flash, without changes and prices are very low ... NXP has the LPC2103 with 32K of flash 8K of RAM some resources (UART, SPI, D/A, A/D ...) run at 60MHz, with IAR in free version for this memory size for just $2,15 FOB. The NXP LPC2366 with 256K flash and 56K ram and all resources (ethernet for example) costs just $4,74 more cheaper than a MSP430F149.

But all choices dependes of application...

best choice is 8051 because lot of data is availble to us in both hard and soft forms about it while whole of its work resembles intel which is mostly used. Also its cost is small.
but on the other hand AVR is costly but works on the same architecture (harvard architecture) as 8051.but have greater speed also its commands are simple and speed is much greater because it has cpu internal register of about 32

Re: Which microcontroller do you use or prefer and why?

I prefer using C51 from Silicon Laboratories because:
- it is fast (one clock cycle = one machine cycle and 70% of instructions takes 1 or 2 cycles),
- has jtag,
- has good quality ADCs (from 8 to 24 bits resolution depending on model, my favourite one is F060 with two 16bit 1MSps ADCs) and DACs (12bit, 10us) and stable reference voltage built in,
- has crossbar for I/O signals and I can decide how signals will be connected to pins (to which of them).

Why Zilog's are weak? besides that their uCons are mostly OTPs
When I was studying microcontrollers in our school, we use Z8 Emulators

i like z8 especially the latest encore, no banking and paging, relocatable stack, multiple and relocatable working registers, multiple pointers, any register accepts immediate values, rich peripheral set, 3 pin debugging.

the problem is, they do not sell in small quantities, i have once called a local distributor who told me they do not entertain such quantity.
