impact run out of memory error

hi
when I tried to initialize my board which contain a xc18v04 PROM and a XCs10 in boundary scan mode the following error encountered:

EROR: Portability:3- this xilinx application has run out of memory or has encountered a memory conflict. Current memory usage is 2086780 kb. ...

my ram is 1GB an also 2GB virtual memory. Regarding this huge space what do you know the reason of this problem?

thanks

You got all the way through synthesis and routing, and then died on iMPACT? Wow.

The Xilinx answer database mentions that error message, but not with iMPACT. Try it anyway to look for clues.

If that doesn't help, my next step would be to try simplifying the project's HDL until the error disappears. If still no luck, I'd submit a WebCase.

Re: impact run out of memory error

I find the following solution in Answer data base of xilinx:

This problem is fixed in the latest 4.2i Service Pack, available at:
http://support.xilinx.com/support/techsup/sw_updates
The first service pack containing the fix is 4.2i Service Pack 3.

whre can I find ISE4.2sp3?

can I use impact 6.2 or higher for programming my spartan chip with prepared *.BIT or .MCS file?

regards

We must have hit the submit button at the same time. Smile

I think "ISE Classics" is the full ISE 4.2i with SP3. It's free:

I not sure if modern iMPACT can download old bitstreams. Maybe. Never tried it. I see plenty of antique BSD files in my ISE 9.1i installation, so maybe it can.

I just now tried iMPACT 9.1i with an old XC4005e bitstream, and it recognized it and loaded it. I don't have that old FPGA board anymore, so I can't do the download, but it's encouraging.
