Sounds like you are confusing the term Microwaves with 'microwave oven' often called a microwave.
Anything above 1 or 3GHz ( depends who you talk to ) is considered to be microwaves, so wireless LAN equipment & satellite TV are all microwave.
Keep the power down and it is no more dangerous than any other electronics, just a bit more tricky to handle.
Don't mess with microwave ovens unless you know what you are doing, they can BITE HARD !

| microwave oven are safe to work with enough safety is kept in mind while designing it and the frequency used in microwave oven is not harmful

| Exposure to microwave energy can be dangerous if the power / unit area to which you are exposed is more than the safe limits. Microwave has generally heating effect on tissues.

Hi
for microwve range there are three popular ranges (most use this)
1- Cband from 4GHz-8GHz
2- Xband from 8GHz-12GHz
3-KUband from 12GHz-18GHz
but for danger the waves, that related with the output power that the scientist try to reduce it ( we talk about mW just and must not be more than)
