Need to make pulsating buzzer - as small as possible

I'm working on a little project and could use a fair bit of help.

I bought a pulsating piezo buzzer from Radio Shack (part # 273-066), hooked it to a 9-volt battery and, ta-dahhhh, I have a beeping device. That's 1.0.

The pulsating piezo buzzer is larger than I'd prefer it to be, so I want to do what I can to make it smaller.

Goals for v2.0:

Make the device smaller (as small as possible)
Make the timing between beeps user selectable (rotary dial)
Make the tone of the beep user selectable (another dial)

Goals for v3.0:

Allow for different recorded sounds and loop that sound.

I am an electronics noob, so I need as much detail as possible.

Any help y'all can give me is greatly appreciated.

"...hooked it up to a 9-volt battery..."???

What kind of 'pulsating' piezo buzzer is that???

As small as possible could be miniscule. A PIC10F2xx is the size of a SOT23- it could be glued to the back of a 6mm piezo with some room to spare.

Granted the output current wouldn't be much, and the top voltage would be 5.5 or 6, I don't remember.

For better output and easier control, you may end up using two chips- most likely both SOIC8. Still, you're only up to 11mm diameter needed for the chips (unless you stack them).

As for playing recorded sounds, depending on what they are you may be in to some space eating resource.
