lamemp3 codec is nice one, using some front-end like razorlame for example.

If you want to convert only some files go for trial versions ..
Here is one example:

This converter gives you 30 free conversions ..
You can try several other converters .. each and every of them will give you at least 5 free conversions ..
However, if you plan to convert hundreds of files - buy one .. They cost below 20 bucks ..
