I like Visio drawing because it suitable and easy to edit with MS word if U used to make your Project paper. Very Happy

SmartDraw is good, but you need to get familiar with it for quick results.

Kicad is free and can generate netlist for spice, pcd, gerber and 3d visu.
There are a lot of libraries and modules.

P*otel and Tango generates output for PSPICE.
There are also the Mindi of SImetrix, it's intendeed to be a simulator.

It all depends upon applications and size or compactness of PCB. May be a few layer PCB is only the requirements of a hobbyest or an ameture and PADS or PCBMaker like software can be used but for multi layer say 30 layers and having restrictions of tracks, via's etc, one needs a highly professional software like OrCAD or PCAD etc. It also depends the output format of such software should be compatible with available CAM's like drill files, layer files etc (now gerber files for universal acceptance), so easy conversion of real world can be obtained.

has anyone tried Rimu Schematic ?

it looks ok, see here,

seems to generate spice netlists, but can it launch simulations ?

I use the windows version. It draws the nicest cicuits I've seen from any tool, it's no use for simulation though.

But if you're wanting a circuit drawing tool for making reports/thesis type stuff, then xcircuit is a cracker. It outputs to .ps format, which is a bit of a pain but www.ps2pdf.com sorts that out.

Post05 Dec 2007 15:10   Software for circuits drawing!!

Hi all,
Bellow is the Chapter 4 taken from the book
CMOS VLSI Design: A Circuits and Systems Perspective
Writen by David Harris

Please take a look inside this document:

http://www.aw-bc.com/info/weste/assets/downloads/ch4.pdf

I need to know the tools used to draw circuits at transistor level like in page 70 and gate level in the page 87.

Thanks so much.
