Stick diagrams are commonly used to represent the topology (not the geometry) of CMOS integrated circuits. With a little annotation (FET width and length) they provide adequate information to guide layout and mask generation.
Stick diagrams help plan layout quickly
– Need not be to scale
– Draw with color pencils or dry-erase markers

1.A stick diagram is a cartoon of a layout.

2. Does show all components/vias (except possibly tub ties), relative placement.

3. Does not show exact placement, transistor sizes, wire lengths, wire widths, tub boundaries.

4.Useful for planning layout

5.Key idea: "Stick figure cartoon" of a layout
relative placement of transistors
assignment of signals to layers
connections between cells
cell hierarchy
