hi guys
just wanted to know why the 555 timer is called a 555 timer. do the three 5's have any importance as such?

its just the name like 74hc00 ...
the dble timer chip is 556

Yes, The name of 555 came from the three 5kOhms resistors at its input!
important or not, it's not clear as they're a part in the IC structure! and according to them it works !

| the 555 name came from the fact that it has three 5k resistors in it's construction. to make a potential divider network.

Yeah, exactly, its name comes from its 3 resistors of 5kOhm. The story about 555 history told that when its original designers from Signetics wanted to choose its name, they just realized that its unique feature is those 3 resistors, and so its name is 555.
Sometimes, there is a story about device's number, as 555 for example, and it is also the very famous IC which has been alive for 4 decades, from early 1970's.
One another famous IC also, everyone knows, that is 741, but I never heard about its name story.
