Almost every vendor of EDA says their tools work fine with redhat,
but they don't talk about mandrake or other disturbutions.
That's funny, right?
and some tools work ONLY on certain version,
like synplify to redhat 7.2
I also try to make it happen to redhat 7.3 get alone with synplify 7.1,
that's not easy...
i think the reason may be the lib cannot match or some wrong dll call.
By the way, synopsys-dc will support linux only and not any more on wind*ws.

Well, this is not true. I have have an old Suse 6.4 very, very customized and Modelsim, XHDL, nc-sim, Synplify (including 7.1), Amplify, HDL Designer and a lot of eda tools are running fine. Well, it's true, sometimes I have to add shared libraries (eg XHDL) but it's vendor's fault for not including them. Static binaries are bigger but they run in _all_ distros. Vendors are following the M$ aproach. They test their products in one distribution, usually RH, and say "...Only tested in RH..." That means, "it works with out-of-the-box RH
use it at your own risk in other distributions"

"EDA tool" includes many different programs, ranging from filter design to ASIC P&R. What exactly do you want to do ?
