Consider a communication link with a data rate 1 Mbps and a bit error rate P = 10-6. We need to transmit a 1 Mbyte file over this link.
a.Determine the probability of transmitting the given file without errors? Note for n large and P very small, (1 - P)^n= e^-nP.
b.The engineer decided to break up the file into N equal-sized blocks, and then transmit them separately. In this case, what is the probability that all the blocks reach correctly the destination without error? Can you conclude that the segmentation of the file into blocks help? Explain your answer.
