what's the difference between 3 bits slicer and 3 bits ADC?

adc slicer explained
It seems the purpose of a 3 bits slicer is as same as a 3 bits ADC, what's difference between these two? why it call slicer sometimes?

I'd say a 3-bit ADC divides its range into 8 equal parts, a slicer into 3 .
