Please let me know is it possible that a system can accept TCP/IP throgh its LAN port but does not accept Voice/IP through that port?
Thank you

Is it possible to explain more please.
We want to use IP phones together with some IP cards in PABX system to establish telephony system between stations in an existing SDH ring.
The supplier says that its SDH interface cards can accept data over IP but it does not support voice over IP, but he does not know why.
We want to know the reason and the solution if it is possible.
Thank you very much.

Yes that is possible.
There are a load of different VOIP protocols some of which use UDP rarther than TCP.
As vinci says it is possible for other systems to attempt to establish a VOIP connection to the system but for it to fail because the system is not runing VOIP software.

| yes, SDH is transparent for data and voice. It depend rather on cards in PABX and software in maintenance systems.

| tcp is a reliable protocol per say where as udp, jst like ip, lacks reliability .. its a best effort protocol ... no error control ... packets out of order or corrupted are dropped ... packets lost aren't re requested as in the case of tcp ... thus udp is used for applications like voice and video ... and u suffer blips when data is droppd ...

| Logically , if the layering model is to be considered ... all cards operate at link layer and since tcp and udp implementation is done on transport layer which is even above the network layer ... so my guess would be that SDH and PABX itself are oblivious to VOIP ... it's about the software at the end systems and nothing more .. the system itself is capable of managing VOIP traffic flow the QOS might be poor ...
