Post23 Apr 2006 1:20   I want information about microstrip discontinuities..

I need brief explanation about microstrip discontinuities such as right angled bend (corner), open end, gap, notch, step, T-junction microstrip ...etc.

Can anyone suggest either a good refernece or tutorial page that provide such information?

Thanks in advance,
Ahmad,

Right Angle Bend = Capacitor Model
Open End = Capacitor Model
Gap = Inductor Model
Notch = Capacitor Model
Step = Capacitor Model
T-Junction = Capacitor Model

[1] Stephen H. Hall, Garrett W. Hall, James A. McCall, " HIGH-SPEED DIGITAL SYSTEM DESIGN"
This is a book written by Intel engineers.

[2] William J. Dally,John W. Poulton, "Digital Systems Engineering"
This is a book written by system experts from Stanford.

I used them for my PhD and Masters. Very good books.

You find this information on any microwave engineering book.
See book " microwave engineering handbook"
Check Edaboard's ebook section.

Transmission Line Design Handbook by Brian C Wadell

It contains just about every discontinuity and it's formula.

The above references are all helpful. There are plenty more as well.

I would suggest that you also try to get your hands on a simulator and model some of these items. You can then get a picture of how they work by watching the fields move through the devices.

I use HFSS. There are other good simulators around. I know someone will write to say that Ansoft Designer is better. Someone else will say IE3D is better. If you want to read about the various software packages around just watch this page. It is a recurring theme.
