Well if you have got the HEX file and schematic then why not design your own after all it is a simple circuit,
I have never tried to download files besause i already own a GTP USB PLUS which is the best programmer i have ever built and tried
Just be careful in what you are saying becasue beggers can't be choosers
Welll that's my 2 pennies worth

I've built this programmer, it does works, but the problem how can i disable it after using it???If i delete the driver at the hardware profile of WinXP, i need to reinstall the driver each time i plug it in, which is troublesome, anyonme???
Added after 12 minutes:
and btw, I've tested it with 16F877A. 876A, 767,777
seems like all ok, but a slight problem with 16F876A. Sometimes it is able to detect, sometimes doesn't.
So during hex file downloading, sometimes it can finish, sometimes got stuck at around 80%.
Although it finishes at 100%, but error occurs, dunno y. Eventhough got errors during verifying after downloading, the chip runs according as i programmed.
ANyone experience that??
Added after 1 hours 4 minutes:
can anyone recommend a disassembler that is able to convert the hex to assembly??? If hex to C would be better, plz help..........thankx

Hi Fragrance,
Configuration Bits from MPLAB:
USB Clock Source: Clock src from 96MHz PLL/2
CPU System Clock Postscaler: [OSC1/OSC2 Src: /1] [96MHz PLL Src: /2]
96MHz PLL Prescaler: Divide by 3 (12 MHz input)
Oscillator: HS: HS+PLL, USB-HS
Fail-Safe Clock Monitor Enable: Disabled
Int. Ext. Switch Over Mode: Disabled
USB Voltage Regulator: Enabled
Power Up Timer: Disabled
Brown Out Detect: Enabled in hardware, SBOREN disabled
Brown Out Voltage: 2.0V
Watchdog Timer: Disabled-Controlled by SWDTEN bit
Watchdog Postscaler: 1:32768
CCCP2 Mux: RC1
PortB A/D Enable: PORTB<4:0> configured as digital I/O on RESET
Low Power Timer1 Osc Enable: Disabled
Master Clear Enable: MCLR Enabled, RE3 Disabled
Stack Overflow Reset: Enabled
Low Voltage Program: Enabled
Extended CPU Enable: Disabled
Code Protect: ALL Disabled
Data EE Read Protect : Disabled
Table Write Protect Boot: Disabled
Config. Write Protect: Disabled
Table Read Protect: ALL Disabled
Table Read Protect Boot: Disabled
Values: 22 0E 3F 1E 81 85 0F C0 0F E0 0F 40 (From MPLAB)
Values: 0E22 1E3F 8100 0085 C00F E00F 400F (From WinPic800)
With WinPic800 settings from HEX file are OK.
WIth MPLAB you need to change "USB Voltage Regulator" setting to "Enabled"
I know it because the first time I used MPLAB and GTP doesn't work so I used WinPic800 with
JDM and all goes OK.
Later, comparing fuses in both programs I discovered the reason...
I suggest you, if you're building Lite version, to add T_Vdd switch as in the Plus Version:
BC557 with:
E= VCC
C= 10K resistor to GND / T_Vdd OUT to ICSP
B= 2K2 resistor to RB2
My version (3.55g) was downloaded from:
http://snipurl.com/ta29
(found also in http://www.electoday.com/freeware/WinPic800_v355g.rar but not tested)
and it has all hardware and languages files (not found in other files from other sites)
Good work... it's a very useful programmer.
Regards.

Hi thelux, y v need to add another BC557 to RB2 in lite version since the lite version do not use the RB2??can explained?
Btw, for the plus version, can u upload the complete schematic(if possible the layout) and the version of Winpic800 to use?? The firmware for 18F2550 is the same as Lite version rite??

Hi wakaka,
I suggest to add Vdd switch for PICs that need Vpp before Vdd (usually the once with internal OSC) because if you leave Vdd always on the PIC start to execute the code (if it was programmed to use internal OSC) and not goes in program mode.
This can happen if PIC was programmed previously and not if it's empty.
If you search for "Vpp before Vdd" you'll find a lot of infos and tips to modify programmers like JDM.
Plus version is different from free version (not longer supported by new software), it has different firmware (sold only) so you can't use old firmware and software with this.
You can find Plus schematic in:
http://www.winpic800.com/descargas/REV2/GTP-USB[plus].pdf
Lite version (reduced version of FREE Summer2005) uses the same firmware as complete version but is ICSP only (Vpp1 and Vpp2 was created to can use only one ZIF socket).
ICSP only doesn't need to have 2 Vpp (so you have Vpp1 only) but, I think, it's better to leave Vdd switch.
In original FREE version it was BC547 controlled by ULN2003 (pin16 to B, pin 1 to RB2).
In Lite version you haven't ULN2003 so the best way is to drive B with a resistor to RB2 (like in the Plus).
Yesterday I forgot an important thing:
if you made Lite version (with Vpp1 only), remember to disable "Use Vpp2" in WinPic800 Settings => Hardware.
Hope this help... if you have other questions I'm here.
Regards.

I've attached a GTP USB schema, so can the same firmware for lite version being used for this?? The same version of Winpic800 (v3.55g) can be used as well??
coz i would like to build one multi usb prog.
For the attached version, is it the SUmmer free version?? Y it need 2 Vpp (Vpp1 and Vpp2) as both Vpps are around 13V?
In the second page of the pdf file, there is a JP2, wats the use for tat?? normally use Vpp1 or Vpp2?
THankx.......

@ wakaka: your schematic is GTP USB Free (summer 2005). Vpp1 and Vpp2 are for ZIF socket, ICSP can be made with only Vpp1. Plus version is very different in hardware and so the firmware can't be the same as previous version. The only way to have Plus is to buy pre-programmed PIC from the author.
@ Fragrance: Tested with V. 3.59: GTP Lite is listed BUT only with LPT port (as you can see in Settings => Hardware). Last supported version for USB FREE version (Lite or full) was 3.55g
Regards.

Try this programmer. It is completely free. The site is in German, but easy to follow (I speak only English).
h**p://www.sprut.de/electronic/pic/projekte/brenner8/index.htm#aufbau
I have built and tested this programmer. It works fine, but you must start the software BEFORE you plug the programmer in or it won't read, write, or properly identify any PIC's. You will need a programmer to program the bootloader into the 18F2550 (I used JDM). The files are in Eagle format. There are also GIF's.

You could try 18F2445 - Same pic less memory.
Added after 4 minutes:
BTW, the programmer I described in the last post (Brenner8) has new software and firmware. All problems I was having have been corrected. Give it a try.

Hi all!
I have only 18f4550, and can't find others at this time (and maybe so far). So, can I use 4550 for above gtp usb schematic with the same hex file? I read in datasheet and nothing is diffenrent excepts memory
