zero-crossing vs non zero-crossing Optoisolators ??

wat is the difference bet zero-crossing and non zerocrossing optoisolator triac drivers ? ( like MOC3011 and MOC3042) how to use them to drive triac ???

thx

Re: zero-crossing vs non zero-crossing Optoisolators ??

The only difference will be in the "noise" generated by both options.
The "zero-crossing" will be almost noise-less, as it is swithed on and off when the current/voltage is at "zero", whereas the phase-controlled option will generate a lot of electro-magnetic noise .. as the switchig point can be anywhere between 0-180°/180°-360°..

Hi Ful Babu

I agree with IanP but thought that is was also worth mentioning that the zero cross over is also useful for taking stress off some load types.

For example if your driving a filament lamp it’s helpful to ensure you switch on when the voltage is at zero, rather than applying the peak voltage across a cold filament.
