Hi All,
I have encountered 3D model of our PCB before
we make the PCB real one. Could You let me know
how to make the 3D model and what software used?
Thanks

protel DXP and 2004 allowes you to make 3d view.
even multisim has a 3d modeling option.

For something like in the picture, you'll have to use something advanced like 3dsmax, and to use as input the DXF file provided by routing program. In your picture I can see mappings and illumination. I don't know about multisim, but protel will generate 3D view only for the components from their standard libraries. For the components which are defined by you, they will show like boxes in the 3d view. You do not have the posibility to define a 3d model for a component (height, profile, extrusions, etc.).

for EAGLE it could be done with a software like Eagle3D. Check out this site:
http://web2.callisto.twam.info/eng/index.php?page1=eagle3d
It uses POVRay for the raytracing.

The shown picture must be done by something like solidworks. it is very difficult for 3dmax to shape a PCB board like this. but with solidworks, it's very easy, just load the stanstard electronics components in the library and place them in order. This 3D shapping can be done in 1 hour by a skilled solidworks operator.

Cadstar can do 3D too.
However I dare say that there is a lot of work involved in setting up the libraries etc to reflect the accurate dimensions etc of the components.

I use SolidWorks too... but is not so cheap. I have seen Cadstar 3D and is very
powerfull (you can import end export a real 3D format like iges, and when move a 3D component it is "reflect" on PCB) but I don't know if it can be used alone(without Cadstar).
If you looking for a cheapest 3D CAD serch on web :
TurboCAD (ACIS based) and a very low cost VariCAD (iges).

| AutoTRAX and AnsoftLinks can do that but with not much detail as shown by Eagle.

Cadstar 3D also gives good results. In the software itself you can define the height ,placement outline of components and then you can generate the 3D view of pcb.ALso with the help of cadstar 3D libraries you can generate the exact view of ICs,resistors.
It also supports import from different Mechanical software,SO you have the option of importing the enclosure and then checking out the component collosion etc.
If any other info required, please let me know

HI Folks,
Its really time consuming job when you do it in Cadstar, its better to export it to AutoCad or to Solidworks and do the rest.
Best Regards

Well it all depends on the capability of software you are using.
Normally, while creating specify various parameters like pitch, height, package geo & pin details you can view the 3 dimentional view of component.
Try developing 3d view utilities if your software doesn't support.
Good Luck

You can use PCB to 3D with solidedge.Only what you need is idf.v2 file
good luck

Your setup very well resembles my setup, but all those 3Ds in
Altium are only good for making 'pictures'. I use those to make
detailed PCB assembly drawings; but, if I need a working copy of
a 3D, I make a Solidworks assembly so I can do a "form, fit, function"
of the PCB in another environment, like a test fixture.

hi,
You can use Allegro for best viewing in 3D.
you have to mention the height in place bound top,and while creating you should create as per the Manufacture datasheet. then u can see 3d view perfectly.
cheers,
chakri
