I have one of these old gems as well as the equalizer, 6x9's and deck, but the decks messed up. Just wondering if I can wire in a newer deck and use the GM120? don't have the manual or schematic and don't have enough points to get the PDF's located above in this post.............I'm new to this forum, but I'm not sure why you've got to earn points to make use of a useful forum like this.....JMHO

Did you ever find out how to hook it up to a non-component Pioneer unit? I'd like to hook my GM-120 up to a new Pioneer CD Player...just wondering which input wires are which to connect to the pre-out from my new CD player. I have snipped my component cord and see several colored wires, but don't know which ones are for L, R, +, or -. Any help would be great! Thanks. AJ

Hi safeharbor,
The componant cord you cut should have a sheilded cable in it with a red and a white wire in it, the shield goes the the shield of your rca outputs of your new deck, and the red is the right side, and the white is the left. Also if you download the first image the other person is so kindly offering it shows the pin layout for the signal in. I also have one of these that I am trying to hook up to newer compnants as well, but when all connected I cannot get the unit to power up, I even connected the brown wire to the orange remote signal wire in the hopes that it also needed to be hot to activate the unit, but no availe. Leaving me to wonder if the amp is not functional or there is some other trick to activating the unit, I was hoping someone on here had a service manual with a troublshooting section, but the only ones I see are just pcb layouts with some identifers. Hope I helped, and if anyone has any tips on getting the amp to power up ,I sure appreciate it., Thanks-TCVR

Anyone help, please?
Thx muchly.

My Guess is B+ in = Power to the Amp
B+2 = Turn on voltage
But E confuses me it goes to the Base of the Darlington. it may be a turn on for an EQ

Hello
For all Pioneer amps about that age, there are two issues connecting them to recent car audio system.
The fist is the amplifier remote signal. Nowadays system use a 0V/12V signal, generated by the source, for the amplifier. Most of those amplifiers use a PNP transistor, that senses the current consumed by the source (cd or deck or other). In order to address the issue, one might connect the B+ or ACC signal of the source to the pin 6 of the amplifier. Another solution (that i prefer) is opening the case, soldering a wire to the collector of Q38, and this wire acts now as a standard amp remote. The measured current on this wire is about 25mA, and it safe for most of modern car source.
Another issue is the sensitivity of the amp. For this amp, it is about 80mVeff, and can be transformed to about 600mV by placing a 270 to 330 ohm resister in parallel to muting transistors, Q23 and Q24.

Hello
Like to know what the plug pin 2 or "E" is used for when connecting to a new CD player? What do you mean when saying connect resistor parallel over Q23 and Q24 ( emittor to collector or base to collector )? Do you have any information on the same model equalisor to new CD player?
Thanx

I have attemped to Bogdanel modification for make that the amp switch on,but no results .
Ihave testing every semiconductor on the pcb so i don'understand why he don't swith on,either it is not clear for me the place of resostor in parallel whit muting transistor
How do we think

I got one of these units from a buddy of mine. he said that it doesn't turn on. When he had it in his car, it soulded pretty good. even at a meagre 50 watts.
I was wondering about B2. Is this an output to turn on another unit or something?
Sorry is this is a weird question, but I want to see if i could get it going without having to fork out a lot of cash for a techie to look at it.
Added after 24 minutes:
A couple other things. has anyone considered using this as part of a home entertainment system?
Can the amplifier be used in a bridged mode (maybe get around 140W mono)?
Has anyone considred replacing the transistors in the power supply section with mosfets to reduce the operating temperature and maybe improve efficiency?
Has anyone ever simply bypassed the inverter section and used a transformer in it's place?
What's the purpose of the 21.8V feed?
I was considering using the amp as a subwoofer amp in mono and building a subwoofer for my home theathre system that is being built piece by piece
