A pager is a communication device through which you can exchange information in text format only. prior to cell phones they were popular.they have a small lcd display with variable character widths and few buttons to enter text and other commands.

Why this device is called pager? in other words, I mean where's the name "pager" come from?
page --> pager: not easy to understand for newcomer in this field!
