What is the meaning of 10:1 duty-cycle operation?

Hi all,

When I read the data sheet of Micrel's 868MHz receiver, it mention that shutdown mode for >10:1 duty-cycle operation. But i am not understand the meaning of "10:1", can anyone explain for me?

Thanks x 1000

Re: What is the meaning of 10:1 duty-cycle operation?

For example of GSM system,

One time slot = 576.9us

One user is occuping 1 time slot among a frame (8 time slots ) and to go around
and around.

So to say the HW turn on the circuit 1 x 576.9us and turn off the rest of
7 x 576.9us circuit operation and keep repeating.

So the HW is 8:1 duty-cycle operation.

Put another way:

The ratio between the Idle and Active time
(let's say you transmit in 1 minute every hour: Duty cycle=1:60. Well, here I've put the active time first.)
